Ivan Gazidis has admitted that Unai Emery was an anonymous, unanimous decision from the deciders, and that is the greatest gift for Arsenal.

There is a lot coming out about Unai Emery‘s appointment to Arsenal over these past two days, and more is likely to come. Gradually, fans are warming to the new boss, despite the initial shock brought on by a complete lack of understanding that he was even being seriously considered.

But to make matters even better, Ivan Gazidis has give us a fanciful bit of news that I really do hope is true, and not just his attempt to make things more unified. Of course, even if it is, then more power to him.

Gazidis opened up on how they chose Emery, and apparently it was secret ballot vote between three people and Emery won unanimously. As in every single person that voted, voted for him (if you needed a definition).

According to Gazidis, this wasn’t even surprising.

"We narrowed it down to three. We spent an entire day discussing among those three. At the end of the day, three of us all wrote on a piece of paper, 1, 2, 3, and put them into the middle of the table. And the choices were all, 1, 2, 3, the same. And Unai was at the top of all of our lists.More from Pain in the Arsenal3 observations from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison Park3 standout players from 1-0 victory over Everton3 positives & negatives from Goodison Park victoryArsenal vs PSV preview: Prediction, team news & lineups3 talking points from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison Park"

He went on:

"I think the thing that distinguishes Unai above all of that, above all the process and above all the things you can read about him, was the chemistry between us and the feeling for football in the room. Unai has an energy, a passionate competitive energy. It is this combination of detail, of hard work, passion and a love for football and a will to win that made us feel that this fit was exactly right for Arsenal and exactly right for the people we have working at the club."

I think we, as fans, aren’t swayed by words so much anymore, but damn, it’s hard not to be swayed by that. To hear that this club is unified behind anything, that’s pretty special. Especially given the division in the club over the past few years, not just with the fans, but on the pitch as well (Alexis…).

This is the first decision that the ‘deciders’ had to make as a collective unit and they made it as one, unified mind. If that doesn’t testify to the forward-thinking of this club and the shared vision, than I don’t know what does.
