There are plenty of Arsenal rumors floating about, but the Jack Wilshere one refuses to go away. There are bigger things at work here, people!

I guess we should have seen this coming after how Arsenal set themselves up in January. All anyone could talk about were the contract situations of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. While that situation turned out the best it possibly could, there was that knowledge in the back of our minds that it would happen again.

And it is.

Now it’s Jack Wilshere. After reports broke that he signed a new contract, it has since taken a downward turn, as fans and media alike are reading into “cryptic Instagram posts” to try to find hints of if Wilshere is staying or going.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter. Whatever happens, happens. And, long story short, whatever happens really doesn’t effect the club all that much. With Unai Emery here, the focus is on moving the cub forward and finding the catalysts who can drive this club into the modern era of winning major trophies.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Sorry to all the Wilshere fanboys out there, but Jack Wilshere is not one of those players. He still could be, I suppose, but why would the club be bending over backwards to get Wilshere signed up when the new manager has made it clear what his priorities are, Wilshere made it clear throughout this past season that he was not a consistent performer, and all in all, whatever happens with Wilshere is not going to be that big of a deal.

If he leaves, we bring in someone to replace him. That someone is less injury prone and has a fresh slate and motivation to prove himself, which may take time but, in the end, will probably happen.

If he stays, Arsenal have a solid rotational option in midfield. But they still have to sign someone more consistent in the middle of the pitch. Because Wilshere’s best purpose can apparently only be served in moderation.

I love having Wilshere on the club and I do hope he stays, but it’s absolutely not worth agonizing over, because at the end of the day, his presence, or lack thereof, is not going to have that big of an impact on the team. Unless he finds the passion to step up and do more than what he mustered last year.
