The praise is ringing in for Arsenal’s new manager Unai Emery, and the magic words are all being touted as right in his wheelhouse.

After the shock sprouting from the “sudden” appointment of Unai Emery, the chatter is not almost unanimously positive surrounding Arsenal’s new manager Unai Emery. Former players and current players are all weighing in on the appointment and what he will bring to the club.

Perhaps the best spiel I have yet read comes from one of Emery’s former players while at Sevilla, Marco Andreolli. In an article he wrote for the Guardian, Andreolli highlights what Emery brings to a club and it’s safe to say he is literally making a list of all the things Arsenal fans have wanted out of a manager.

Over the past decade or so with Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has had the same kind of criticism thrown his way – he lacks ambition, his players have no fire, he can’t motivate the troops anymore.

Most if the nastier remarks were just the culmination of years of frustration, but for the most part, I think that we can all agree that the comfort and security of Wenger caused the fire to deaden a bit in the hearts of these players, whether they meant to or not.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Andreolli’s three main characteristics of Emery as a manager are the three main things that Wenger was criticized for lacking.

He refers to Emery’s insistence on winning everything. He highlights Emery’s ability to motivate, calling him an extraordinary motivator who was bent on “lighting a fire” inside of the players.

This is all pure brilliance. It is everything that Gooners have been asking for in a manager. Among all the criticism of the club, most fans have been willing to admit that the players themselves can beat anyone when they are motivated enough. The problem has been keeping the motivation.

Which makes it clear why Emery was hired. He does the one thing that Wenger was apparently unable to do, and he does it well. Well enough that we may be able to expect results much sooner than anticipated.

This is just more fantastic news compiled on the ongoing string of praise for Emery. The braintrust at the club knocked this appointment out of the park, and we should be thrilled for the start of the next season.
