New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been given the reigns to take over from the most successful manager of Arsenal Football Club, here’s why I believe 3 years is a realistic timeline for him to bring success.

Arsenal New boss Unai Emery has signed a three-year contract and taken over the ranks from Arsene Wenger. The shoes are huge to fill and the task ahead is anything but easy given the high standards the former boss set, so it’s obvious that the new manager needs time to adjust and implement his blueprint within the club and three years would be an acceptable time period to give the new man, given his contract is extended into a third year.

Given the former PSG and Sevilla boss has a proven record of winning trophies, it shouldn’t take too long to get the team back to winning ways. But what is deemed acceptable not winning during his first couple of years at the club?

We can’t be naive into thinking that a new manager will win the league in his first season. Whilst it’s doable, its obviously not expected with a squad that massively under performed for the last two seasons now. Emery needs to lay into the squad if they continue to under perform and man manage the players when their performances start deteriorating.

The Gunner faithfuls will all back the Spaniard as most fans are excited by what the change brings, and there’s hope that Emery will be just as successful as Wenger was during his early years at the club.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Unai Emery being the major tactical analyst he is by watching replays of games and analyzing the game with the players, should have the right formula to get Arsenal higher in the table. Backed by his top flight experience in big teams such as PSG and winning ways with Sevilla, the 46 year old has all the ingredients to succeed at the club that has so much to offer him as a manager.

For Emery, 3 years will be enough time to revamp the squad, bring the players that he wants through financial backing and start mounting serious title challenges and winning major trophies. Three years is also a long enough period to start integrating young players and giving youth prospects such as Konstantinos Mavropanos, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson regular runs in the first team, allowing for their development.

If for any reason, results are still sour or he has not managed to live up to the expectation by winning enough at the club, do we give the manager longer than 3 years before the gloves come off and criticism about his methods start by fans?
