Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey five years away from legendhood
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have reportedly tabled a five-year contract offer for Aaron Ramsey, which would be all that he needs to solidify himself as a legend.
There is a lot riding on Arsenal’s ability to extend the stay of Aaron Ramsey. Super Rambo emerged again, after a couple years of being stunted by injuries, and in spite of missing out on significant Premier League minutes in order to remain fresh in the Europa League, he churned out a higher goal contribution clip than many rival strikers – Gabriel Jesus and Alvaro Morata, for instance.
Unai Emery came in, drumming up the Welshman even more, saying that he wanted to build around Ramsey as a centerpiece. Hard to argue with Emery’s intuition, as well as his knowledge of the club’s existing resources.
The only thing that remains is to get him a contract. Which is coming along very nicely. Because according to numerous sources, the Gunners have sent Ramsey a contract offer for a five-year extension.

It’s a word that carries a lot of weight with an historic club like this, but when you look at his list of accomplishments, he has more than a few. He has been the key figure in two FA Cup wins, including the one that broke the trophy drought and the one over Chelsea.
He has been a midfielder that, at his best, can do literally anything. He bleeds heroics and he has been one of the most surefire Arsenal-centered men on the team. He never quits.
But “legend?” That is tough to just grant to him, given that he is only 27 and could conceivably have an entire second career at another team and give them another eight years, which is about how long he’s been a relevant force with the Gunners.
But five more years? If Ramsey agrees to this deal and stays for an additional five years, then I don’t see how he can traverse those five years, on the trajectory that he’s on, without forcing his way into being considered an Arsenal legend.
And no, I don’t think I am getting ahead of myself in the least bit.

Five years is a long time. He could feasibly be here until he’s 32. Right about the cut-off point for engines like him to start fading and start looking towards the next phase of their career. But more importantly, the point where he’ll have had a complete and fruitful career at Arsenal. Legend. Status. Activate.
