Arsenal fans are questioning how Lucas Perez could fit in again, but if Danny Welbeck is on his way out, then Lucas fits the mold perfectly.

Arsenal have to be resourceful this summer, given the transfer budget that is being tossed about, and that means that each and every sale – assuming there are some – is going to bring in precious resources.

As it stands, there are a couple names being bantered about in the ‘who can we sell’ discussion and, given the status of his contract and the lack of any concrete talks, Danny Welbeck‘s name has come up. His deal runs up in the summer of 2019 and avoiding frees is suddenly a huge priority.

Meaning that either Welbeck needs a new deal this summer, or he needs to be sold this summer, otherwise it will be more of the same next year.

I, for one, want to see him stay. He has his flaws, no doubt, but his raw athleticism would not only fit the high-press that Unai Emery wants to employ perfectly, but it is a constant nuisance to whoever we are playing against.

Not just that, but I really want to see his slick spin move some more. We only got it, what, two times last year? That wasn’t enough.

However, assuming that we sell Welbeck, that would mean that our attacking corps is stricken a bit. With how many competitions that this club wants to compete in, it’s imperative that there are striking options, and without Welbeck, we are down one key option.

Unless you want to start including Lucas Perez in the conversation, which you absolutely should.

If you think about diversity of striking options, Welbeck is the better options. He’s more of a cross between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, albeit with a little less to offer than either.

Lucas Perez is more of a Lacazette type, which would mean a bit of doubling up on the skillsets available. That said, if you are going to double up on anything, it’s not such a bad idea to double up on strikers who are fantastic link-up players. It’s easy to fit them into any schematic because they don’t exist on an island.

Therefore, selling Welbeck and replacing him with Lucas could be a fantastic way to drum up some extra funds. But then again, why can’t we just keep them both and feast on the options that this provides?
