Arsenal: Danny Welbeck silence speaking volumes
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have more than a couple moving parts this summer, one of which may be Danny Welbeck. But we don’t know, because there is zero talk about it.
Arsenal have a lot of things to think about this summer. They’ve checked the biggest thing off their list with Unai Emery, but they still have the transfer window to balance against the World Cup and a smaller transfer budget.
Moving past any potential transfers they have to make, you get to other issues – namely contract issues. Jack Wilshere‘s situation is still not resolved (as of writing) although it is assumed that he will be sent packing, as rumors are starting to indicate such.
Aaron Ramsey only has a year left on his deal as well, which is being approached hard and fast in the summer, as the club are intent on keeping him around, mostly because Unai Emery wants him around.

These are the bullet points on the to-do list, but there are plenty of more things. And somewhere in this mix is the situation with Danny Welbeck. Welbeck, like Ramsey, only has a year left on his deal, meaning that something needs to be done this summer.

That is, unless they are content taking this into the final year, like they did with far too many people this year. But something tells me they aren’t.
Yet, if you were to google “Danny Welbeck contract,” you would find two Pain in the Arsenal articles about the pros and cons of keeping and selling him, and an article from back in February about how Arsene Wenger wants Welbeck to sign a new deal. But other than that, there is absolutely nothing. No talk whatsoever about what the plan is.
Now, granted, it’s still early in the summer. But it’s apparently not too early for Ramsey to be in the news seemingly every day regarding his new contract, and he is in the exact same situation as Welbeck.
You could explain it off as that he isn’t as important as Ramsey, and maybe that factors into it, but he was still a big piece of the puzzle last year. And no matter what capacity he played, the silence surrounding him is reminiscent of the silence around Jack Wilshere. It’s all hearsay, but nothing concrete.

It’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here, but to me, the complete silence is more telling than anything. It doesn’t look good.
