Arsenal are supposedly garnering interest for Calum Chambers again, but it needs to be made perfectly clear that he is not for sale.

According to SkySports sources, Fulham are one team among what will likely be a flurry of teams that are interested in plucking Calum Chambers away from Arsenal. It seems like a golden opportunity for a lower-tier Premier League club to pursue for multiple reasons.

For starters, it looks like the Gunners are intent on blocking his natural progression into the starting XI yet again. With no sales as of yet and Sokratis likely on the way in, Chambers may again find himself left out in the cold, playing fill-in duties.

Not just that, but according to rumors from last year, Chambers was for sale, but Wenger was holding on for a sum in the £20m+ range, which no one was willing to pay.

But just because Chambers was for sale last year (which he shouldn’t have been), doesn’t mean that he will be this year (which he absolutely shouldn’t be).

No matter who comes into the club this summer, be it Sokratis or Caglar Soyuncu, unseating Chambers from the position that he is in should be nowhere near a priority.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There are a lot of problems with this club, but Chambers is not one of them. Chambers is one of the many (yes, many) things going right with the club. He was the best centerback the Gunners had last year and to sell him before he can truly “ascend” to that throne would be foolishness incarnate.

It would defeat so many of the club’s philosophies, namely ‘giving youth a chance.’ Chambers can solve a problem that the club has without any extra work. Just plug him into the back line. He showed last year that he is a competent and mature defender. We don’t need to spend any money to land what we already have.

Build around Chambers, sure. But selling him, when that opens up another massive void that has to be filled, is so counter-intuitive that it makes my head spin. This summer was going to be tough enough already, with the cut transfer budget. Making it tougher by selling a player for a transfer fee that won’t be enough to replace him is pointless.

This guy cannot be for sale. There is no reason for him to be. Unless the club can drum up a £40m fee for him, or something ridiculous like that, then the gain is just not there.
