Bizarre reports have surfaced that Arsenal made a rogue bid on David Luiz. There is absolutely no justifiable reason to do something like that.

I’m all about finding uncanny ways to solve problems. Arsenal have had to do that this summer already. Rather than overspend on known commodities, they’ve had to get a bit crafty in an effort to make their trimmed summer budget work.

But in no circumstance should their exploratory transfer methods this summer include David Luiz. The Gunners have  reportedly been sniffing around after ‘Sideshow Bob,’ even making a £17.6m bid for him that was, thankfully, rejected by Chelsea.

While Unai Emery has a connection to David Luiz insofar as he sold the Brazilian for £34m back to Chelsea shortly after Emery’s arrival at PSG, I don’t see why that would mean that the two are in any way best of friends.

What’s annoying is that this isn’t the first time that the Gunners have been linked with Luiz. All throughout the past year, he has been touted as a potential solution to our defensive woes.

And all I have to say to that is “F off.”

It’s downright ludicrous to think that Luiz is the solution to anyone’s defensive problems. Don’t get me wrong, I think Luiz has some amazing talents. But let’s be honest here, he isn’t a defensive solution. He is more like a creative way to make your defense more versatile, or something pointless like that.

If the objective is to find an error-prone centerback who is good on the ball – like Luiz is – than we don’t have to spend any money at all. We have one. His name is Shkodran Mustafi. And unlike Mustafi, Luiz is 31, has no upside, and would be little more than a shot in the dark.

Mustafi is 26, he has proven top class at times, and there is reason to believe that he could be a reliable defender if he can weed out his deficiencies.

Luiz is only going to get worse. He’s 31 years old, over the hill, and his ‘novelty’ defending has been exposed long ago. Why do you think Chelsea moved on without him, and found it so easy to replace him?

This is a nonsense move, which hopefully means that it’s nothing more than a nonsense rumor. I would hope that a team that has been so smart in the transfer window wouldn’t be dumb enough to do this. Even Sokratis, who I’m not exactly thrilled about, makes practical sense.
