Arsenal: Jack Wilshere opportunity may still be lurking
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal and Jack Wilshere may be forced to part ways because of differing opinions of what he is worth, but there may be an opportunity there yet.
Arsenal look to be moving on without Jack Wilshere. The Englishman had an opportunity this past season to assert himself as a crucial part of the future of this club – his club.
But he didn’t take that chance. He had flashes of brilliance offset by a bigger picture of mediocrity. In the tumultuous situation that the Gunners were/are in with a shifting of a two-decade regime, this was the worst possible time for Wilshere not to take his chance.
Not least of all because he is in a contract year. Which is usually when guys play their absolute best, desperate to latch onto a new, lucrative deal.

Recent speculation indicates that Unai Emery and Wilshere have had “crunch talks” in the wake of Wilshere’s contract termination at the end of this month.
Makes sense, as the timing is apt for something such as that.

But what exactly they talked about is impossible for us to discern, especially given the enigmatic headlines. However, it seems likely that Wilshere was probably made aware that he isn’t going to be given the priority he often had under Arsene Wenger, and as such, the contract offered by the club likely isn’t going to get any better.
The point is, Wilshere surely wants to be a big part of the club and, chances are, Emery doesn’t see it that way. So Wilshere will probably leave.
But there is a hidden opportunity here for Wilshere to accept the contract and prove to Emery that he deserves to be starting. Emery isn’t likely to use the same long leash that Wenger used. If people aren’t jiving, he will change things up as he practices how exactly to deploy his new club, and the players within.
It’s not like Wilshere will be relegated to the reserves. He would find himself on the bench, where opportunity will always arrive. Maybe not so much in the Premier League, but definitely in side competitions, some of which have the potential to rise above in pertinence.
Old Arsenal was far too used to not pressuring guys to reach their top form. Wilshere was pressured last season but he didn’t answer. Some may see that as the one chance he had, and he missed it.

There may yet be another, though. And this may be it. There will never be another, I think it’s safe to say that.
