Arsenal: End of season player rankings
5. Nacho Monreal
The ever-reliable but somewhat limited Nacho Monreal found a new gear last season. He was one who massively benefitted from the 3-4-3 that Arsene Wenger employed in the early stages of last season, excelling as the left-sided centre-half, with his experience as a full-back coming in handy, and then proceeded to win the left-back position from Sead Kolasinac when Wenger shifted to a back-four.
Monreal was in the running for the Player of the Season award, spurred on by his remarkable goal-scoring streak in the second-half of the season, especially from set pieces, and showed himself to be an extremely consistent performer in a variety of different positions.
His lack of fuss, his straightforward approach, and his experience make him a rare dependable option in a squad littered with mercurial, unpredictable, fluctuating contributors. It is nice to see.
