1. Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season. Whether he actually was or wasn’t it’s a  meaningless question of perspective on the minute scale. Irrespective of whether he is the best of third-best, Ramsey had the best season of his career bar the 2013/14 campaign that we have all been waiting for him to rediscover ever since.

Ramsey didn’t quite get to those levels this season, but he wasn’t far off. Seven goals eight assists in 1848 minutes of Premier League football, and four goals and an assist in 540 minutes of Europa League competition is proof of his attacking productivity in yet another season scuppered by a hamstring injury.

His availability was a problem, and has been every year of his career — it is something that he will have to improve, somehow, in the future. But when he was fit and firing, Ramsey was excellent. Going forward, he scored some wonderful goals. He created chances, exploited pace with his movement and linked up play beautifully. He was effervescent, endless in his running, and busy in his defensive work, though his positional discipline sometimes left a little to be desired.

This was Ramsey at or close to his best for much of the year. It was very nice to see.
