18. Konstantinos Mavropanos

When Konstantinos Mavropanos arrived at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger stated that he would not be ready to stay at the club and would be loaned out. It took him a week and only training to change his mind. Four months later, Mavropanos started three successive Premier League games to close out the season.

Those three starts were the only chances we got to see the Greek defender this season. He played 185 minutes. 184 of them were wonderful.  But the one that was bad was perhaps the most significant of them all. Slow to release the ball, Mavropanos was dispossessed by Kelechi Iheanacho, then hauled him down and was rightly sent off. A steep learning curve.

But in the other 184, there were plenty of signs that Mavropanos has a bright future ahead of him. It’s harder to rank him any higher than this because of his limited involvement, but watch out for him next season. His potential is special.
