Arsenal fans are just dying for Lucas Torreira to be officially announced, but in the meanwhile, the Uruguayan is playing his cards right.

There’s something to be said about a guy who understands his priorities. And that is what Arsenal target Lucas Torreira is showing he has.

In an interview with SkySports, Torreira wouldn’t answer whether or not his transfer was sealed up, because he was too busy focusing on his international duties, where Uruguay are currently level on points with first-place hosts Russia in Group A.

Now, granted, this is what you’d expect anyone today, but actually having it said is a nice little reminder that Torreira is not an egotistical, arrogant man that wants all the attention on himself. Then again, we should have known that as well.

That isn’t what I want to talk about though. I want to talk about him saying that Arsenal are “one of the most important clubs in the world.”

He said it, not me. (Even though I say it too).

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There is a certain art to teasing a fan base. Not in a mean way, but in a playful way. It’s unrealistic to think that this deal would be announced while Torreira is in the World Cup. How are they going to do that all-important photo shoot for the #HeyLucas (or maybe #HeyTorreira) movement?

This is a staple to any and every transfer and, without it, it can never truly be official.

In all seriousness though, the deal is done. Sampdoria’s president said that Torreira was sold for the exact fee that Arsenal are willing to pay. That’s all that we need to know. It would be bothersome if Torreira did take the spotlight and admit that he was an Arsenal player when it can’t even be announced officially.

The point is, the best thing that Torreira can do is tease in the form of praise. We all love to hear players talk up the team, and calling them one of the most important clubs in the world is one way to do that. It’s giving him a nice little head start for his upcoming life in North London.

Which, again, is a certainty. He just can’t announce it when he is in the World Cup.

If anyone tells you that it’s a concern that he didn’t announce it, don’t listen to them. There is no “in the dark” here. This is protocol. Be happy with what he did say, because it does count for something.
