Shkodran Mustafi is being encouraged to leave by many fans as they believe he is not good enough for Arsenal, but let’s be patient with the German and see if he develops into the player we all thought he could be.

Arsenal are well and truly underway with transfers and having already bagged two new signings and two more pending, with all the in-comings there will definitely be outgoings and one person whose name has been touted to exit is Shkodran Mustafi.

Many fans have not been pleased with Mustafi’s  performances, citing his mistakes as the reasons why the Gunners conceded so may goals and lost so many games. Some games Mustafi would show glimpses of world class talent and leadership, others he would make unforgivable and amateur mistakes which would cost the team dearly.

But lets make no mistake about it, prior to his arrival to the Emirates, the German was rated highly. Let’s not forget the fact that he is a World Cup winner, and has competed with some of the best center backs in the world for a staring position within the Germany squad.

His arrival was met with a warm reception and the Gunner faithfuls were pleased by his performances and thought that a defensive leader had finally arrived. Shkodran Mustafi’s presence was definitely noticed when Arsenal would fail to lose 22 games straight in all competitions with Mustafi starting, indicating he was the perfect signing.

But a 2-1 loss to Watford at the Emirates and it hasn’t looked too good for the center back since. His performances started to deteriorate and worsen and he would be one of the most inconsistent players at the club.

After his first season, Wenger was rumored to have wanted him gone, but he ultimately stayed for the passing season and it wasn’t much of a different story then either. He would again put in some fantastic performances for some games but would be absolutely atrocious in others with the Manchester United home game coming to mind.

But a lot had to do with the managers tactics. Considering Arsene Wenger  had been struggling with his defense for many seasons. His focus of attack and neglect of the defense always left the defenders at the end of terrible defeats and goals.

Now with a new manager, maybe Mustafi would start putting those world class performances more consistently and hopefully stick to it. With the right management, the German hard man will surely succeed after an ageing Laurent Koscielny.

It’s also worth noting that may other center backs of recent seasons failed to make a mark also, including the likes of Gabriel, Chambers, Holding etc. So Lets be patient with Mustafi, he has the right traits to be the leader at the back that is needed, so wanting to see him out before giving him a chance with the new manager may be a regrettable mistake.
