Arsenal have been named as a club potentially interested in Spurs winger Son Heung-Min. I really want to believe that this is true, but I just don’t.

Every single transfer window, there is always a plethora of names linked with moves to Arsenal. Approximately, only four or five a year will actually sign. That makes for quite a low hit rate on the tens of names that surface in the media.

As a result, it is always difficult to wade through all the unsubstantiated targets that are wildly speculated with moves that will never really happen and find the ones that are genuine and could develop into serious and sustained targets. Remember when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was first rumoured? I specifically stated that I didn’t want to let myself believe. That is because of all of the rubbish reports that arise, muddying the waters and shrouding the truthfulness ones.

And this summer, I now have my next rumour that I want to believe but won’t let myself believe either. Arsenal have been named as one of a number of different clubs to rival Manchester United for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-Min, who was mightily impressive with two successive seasons of double figures in league goals.

There is a myriad of different reasons as to why this rumour is likely rubbish. Why would Son make the north London switch, costing himself Champions League football and inciting the hatred of a whole fanbase? Why would Spurs sell a player who established himself as a key contributor last season? Could the north London rivals feasibly fork out another £50 million having all but already spent the best part of £60 – 70 million?

These are difficult questions to answer and they substantially challenge the validity of the claim that the Gunners are really trying to rival for Son’s services.

And yet, while all these logical arguments make sense and make me not believe an ounce of the report, I want this to happen to so much. Like Aubameyang in January, Son would be the perfect addition. A quick, direct, goal-scoring winger is precisely what this team needs after the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.

But I do not believe. Such is the perfectness of this signing, I am almost willing to abandon logic and wholeheartedly throw myself into this actually happening. But then I think for just a second and realise how ridiculous it would be.

Unfortunately, this is not happening. I do not believe, however much I may want to.
