Arsenal need wingers, badly, and knowing this, is it so crazy to turn to one of our (forgotten) own in Joel Campbell? Surely Unai Emery sees this.

In case you haven’t heard, Arsenal have zero true wingers. Not a soul. They have a massive dollop of central attacking midfielders, all of whom will be asked to play wide if a solution is not found in the transfer market.

But does it have to come from the transfer market? The simple answer is no, it doesn’t. Because wingers are expensive and the Gunners don’t have a lot of money.

So what options do we have in-house? Well, we have Joel Campbell, don’t we? His contract may expire in two days, which likely means that he is bidding farewell to a club that never appreciated him, but on the off-chance that he would reconsider and stay, wouldn’t this be the ideal time?

Unai Emery has already handed a lifeline to Lucas Perez, another player who we thought was long gone. He spent just a year with the club, was never properly used, and ended up frustrated.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Joel Campbell has been thrown into an even worse situation, where his best, which was pretty damn good, wasn’t good enough for the man that mattered – Arsene Wenger. Campbell was replaced after an impressive run of form and, just like that, he was done away with.

But Wenger is gone now. And using Lucas Perez as an example, I don’t see why Unai Emery wouldn’t be interested in extending another lifeline to an internal solution that would save on money and give a passionate player the chance at redemption.

Campbell has a lot of assets that the Gunners need. Namely, that he plays on the wings, has a lot good deal of speed, and he is innovative. Sometimes what he tries fails, sometimes it succeeds. But the point is that he tries things, and he tries them from wide angles, where we sorely need help.

It’s do or die time with Campbell, given that his contract is essentially over and there has been no talk of an extension. But is it so crazy to think about? Surely not any crazier than the team’s social media account forgetting that he was even on the team at all.

It’s a good idea, and Emery is the guy to do it. Mostly because he isn’t Wenger.
