Arsenal: Are we talking about the same Son Heung-min?

So… Arsenal definitely need some more additions, but Son Heung-min? Are we talking about the same one? Because this is confusing.

I always look forward to when Arsenal transfer rumors cross over into the realm of ridiculous. We had been doing so well avoiding it all summer, but that was never going to last forever. Now we are crossing into that special territory where the likes of Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani reside.

Now, Son Heung-min resides there too. Somehow, recent rumors have found a way to push the Tottenham man into our transfer radar.

There’s no denying how talented the South Korean attacker is. From the Bundesliga to the Premier League, he has consistently tallied over ten goals a year going back to the start of his professional career. He has the goal-scoring fever, that’s for sure.

His assists have been developing as well, since he came to England to ply his trade.

None of this is why the rumor in and of itself is stupid. The rumor is stupid, first and foremost, because he is a Spurs player and, unlike Sol Campbell, Son is not in a situation where he wants to get away.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

He is under contract until 2020 and this random report of “he may consider quitting” isn’t exactly convincing me that he’s begging to leave.

But wait, there’s more. Not only is all this going against the possibility, but the rumored fee is £62m. Which is just a bit out of the Arsenal price range for this summer. As in, this one player is completely out of the range of the entire summer.

And what’s even sillier about the price tag is the position that he plays – he plays in the attack, but he’s not a bonafide winger, which is the only kind of attacker we need. Son primarily played striker and central attacker.

Yes, he played wide, but he played wide in the same sense that Henrikh Mkhitaryan did. Neither is a winger, in case you haven’t noticed.

This is a pointless rumor, hardly worth what I am typing about it. The Gunners are not going to land Son, not at that price, not from that team. It wouldn’t make any sense.

So in the mean time, let’s start seeing done deals get done as the World Cup starts bouncing some teams. Maybe then we can forget about all these rumors that are never going to happen.
