Arsenal are all set to finally announce the arrival of Lucas Torreira, but does his arrival mean the end of everything else?

Uruguay are out of the World Cup, which means the last obstacle standing between Arsenal and their marquee man, Lucas Torreira, is overcome (apologies to all Uruguay fans, that we are finding joy in your disappointment – you had a good run).

Torreira is going to cost the Gunners £26m and, according to BBC Sport, the move is set to be announced in the coming days.

Also according to BBC Sport, this move will spell the end of any major deals for the Gunners, with a young player also to be brought in later on. With that in mind, the question needs to be asked – are the Gunners well and truly done after Torreira?

While I want to say that they are conclusively not, I have a hard time doing that. Mainly because I think it’s more likely that they conclusively are. But all in all, there is some middle ground that they are more than likely hovering in.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

If Torreira is the capstone, I don’t think we can have many complaints. Nearly all of the major concerns have been addressed, and on a reportedly low summer budget. It’s hard to deny how well the club has done with what they have, although it’s impossible as always to tell what exactly they did have at their disposal.

Of course, the one thing that would not be answered is the dire need for a winger. As it stands, this attack is very narrow-minded, they don’t have a lot of options to stretch play from touchline to touchline. If we believe in the power of this attack then there is no big concern here. A winger was, for me, always a plan B.

Not to mention that wingers are traditionally very expensive, especially in the modern market. So it wouldn’t be all that surprising if they missed out this summer solely because they can’t afford it, but they will revisit it next summer when we have a bigger budget from being back in the Champions League and winning three trophies (wink wink).

It wouldn’t be the ideal ending, but it would be pretty damn close. And given the minimal hopes going into this transfer window, I think we should be satisfied with pretty damn close.
