Arsenal fans undoubtedly want to know why Aaron Ramsey still hasn’t signed his new contract, but at least we know that Unai Emery is on our side.

When Arsene Wenger was here, it was easy to direct responses at the right party. If it pertained to transfers, contracts, player usage, etc. it was always traceable back to Wenger. The higher-ups at Arsenal may have had clamps on budgets, but mostly, it was Wenger.

With Unai Emery here, things are changing. There is a separate party that handles seemingly everything else, while Emery is left to his planning within the squad and on the pitch. Sure, he has some input behind the scenes, but no more than anyone else back there.

As such when it comes to Aaron Ramsey getting a new deal, it’s not necessarily easy to identify the true culprit behind the deal not being done yet.

Or at least it hadn’t been easy prior to Emery’s recent statements.

The new manager said, yet again, that he sees Ramsey as a crucial piece of what he is trying to build here at this club. No surprises there, he has said that before.

But he also said that he has spoken with Ivan, Raul and Sven about just how important it is to lock Ramsey down to a new deal. That doesn’t require speculation, that is as obvious as it gets. Emery is pushing for Ramsey to get the deal he wants and those in charge of negotiating the deals are mulling it over, or something along those lines.

This is nice to hear. The silence has been broken. We’ve been waiting for something, anything, some sort of shred of a hint as to what exactly is the hold up and Emery has given us a peak that I am so happy to have.

Maybe it isn’t much, but at the very least, it establishes that Emery is on our side in this matter. I say ‘our side’ because I assume (rightly) that every single fan wants Ramey to sign this new deal.

It’s nice to know, even if it means nothing. And, if the time does come to pass that Ramsey is sold off this summer (don’t worry, it won’t happen), at least we can rest assured in the fact that Emery did not want this to happen any more than we did.

This developing snapshot of the roles and responsibilities is useful. It’s also shown that the club has learned, which is always a good thing.
