Arsenal didn’t sign Yacine Adli from PSG after it looking like a done deal. In other news, no one actually cares about this non-story.

There was plenty of reason to be excited about Yacine Adli coming to Arsenal. But the No. 1 reason was simply that he was coming to Arsenal. There wasn’t a lot about him, beyond the hype and speculation, that could have struck us as any more exciting than the next guy.

The move fell through, as he decided to stay at PSG and not follow Unai Emery to the Emirates, and everyone moved on.

That is the end of the story. Pretty special right?

No one is losing sleep over it. The fact that Adli remained gave us the chance to land Matteo Guendouzi who, while I don’t know much about him either, I know more about him than Adli and I like him more than I do Adli and as such, there is no reason to think about Adli anymore.

I’ve already wasted too many sentences on him.

The simple fact of the matter is that Adli would have been the cherry on top of the ice cream Sunday. Even without that cherry, the Sunday is going to be amazing and you won’t think twice about their being no cherry.

The fact that the Gunners ended up adding a cherry in the form of Guendouzi means that there was no longer any great reason to talk about Adli at all. Everyone had done what was best for them and no one was looking back.

Nobody cares that Adli didn’t sign. And yes, I am speaking for everyone else, because I just know. This midfield is in such a beautiful state that no 17-year-old is going to make or break the present or future of this well-oiled machine.

Not just that, but Guendouzi looks to be far more ready-made than Adli. Plus, Guendouzi had the experience of actually playing with a first team beyond an end-of-year cameo. Guendouzi has been making steady appearances at Lorient, which is a sexier situation to buy into then what Adli was doing.

Not that it’s a big deal, but there’s no reason to dwell on this “missed chance.” Call me in five years. If he’s a big deal, maybe we can talk regret. But even then – meh.
