Arsenal: Maybe Stan Kroenke can start moving away from villainhood

Arsenal are headed in a very positive direction, despite Stan Kroenke still being in the highest position. Does that change anything? Kind of.

Let me get something out of the way early – I am no fan of Stan Kroenke. Even outside of Arsenal, I have seen the workings of Stan Kroenke front and center in my hometown of St. Louis.

The man is pure business. There is no other mode of Stan Kroenke. If he isn’t making money, he changes things. That’s not to say that he’s unfair, or cruel. Maybe in a sense, but bigger picture, everything that he does he does for his business enterprises.

No, that isn’t the kind of person you want to be running your club. He doesn’t take an active interest in the game and as long as he is making money, that won’t change. But that in and of itself doesn’t count against him. It counts against him if things aren’t going well.

Right now, though, things are going much, much better. Even if Kroenke deserves no credit for that beyond the bare minimum.

All we can ask for is to be given the chance to compete for the long haul. If Silent Stan wants to stay silent, but still go along with all these things that are happening with the club, maybe it’s not such a bad deal.

I recognize that it’s all happening a bit late. But honestly, there are plenty of people out there who wanted Arsene Wenger to stay just because they wanted him to win one more – to go out on top. Was it then such a bad thing that Kroenke left Wenger where he was? You can’t fire someone like Wenger. You have to come to a mutual agreement and while we don’t know all that happened, something changed, and it was agreed upon that he would leave.

Kroenke wasn’t silent when all this was happening. Somewhere along the line, Kroenke signed off on it. Hell, maybe he even initiated it. It’s hard to say. But all I know is that Silent Stan is going to sound far less repulsive and far more practical going forward.

Let the people who know the game, run the game. That’s all I’m saying. As long as Kroenke is allowing that to happen, then his villain points should be on the decline. Just in time for Aliko Dangote to re-emerge.
