Arsenal’s uncertainties are falling by the wayside, with only a couple big ones remaining. Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, needs a resolution too.

Arsenal are taking a very no-nonsense approach to this summer. All throughout the window they have looked like they’ve known exactly what they’ve wanted and they’ve gone right after it. There have been very few drawbacks, if any, and very many successes.

There are still some unanswered questions going into the next season. There’s no hiding from that much. Some are big and some are small and, buried in the middle of all of that, is Danny Welbeck, who is in the same contractual situation as Aaron Ramsey, albeit with a fraction of the hullabaloo.

In fact, he is drawing zero hullabaloo at all. There has been next to no talk about Welbeck and what his future may be.

And for this, I cry foul. By now, many of you know my style in assessing these kinds of things. I rarely, if ever, let sentimentality get in the way of reason. There is plenty of reason to sell Danny Welbeck.

But there are just as many reason to keep him.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I understand how packed this Gunner attack is. That is as plain as day. They have talent galore and Welbeck is not near the top of the packing order. But that doesn’t mean that he should be done away with just because he doesn’t hit then upper echelon of talent at the club.

We often compare him to Mohamed Elneny here at Pain in the Arsenal, and I can’t think of a more apt comparison. Both have a very specific purpose, both have upside, both are valuable in what they provide.

Not just that, but the value that they provide is multiplied by their passion and desire for the game itself and, by extension, for this club too.

Not just that, but in Welbeck’s case, his athleticism alone makes him a fantastic squad player to rely on. No one is going to work harder than him. And when he is fit and firing, he can be an inspiring sight.

I guess this may come down to money. If Welbeck wants more money or, God forbid, more playing time, it may be hard to deliver.

Still though, with the heights that this club hope to reach, they are going to need players like him to fill in the gaps when necessary.
