Arsenal: Lucas Torreira’s first season comes satisfaction guaranteed
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s biggest signing of the summer, Lucas Torreira, continues to be heralded, and it’s obvious why. For this first year especially, he can do no wrong.
You may be asking yourself why I’m not more superstitious pertaining to things such as this, given everything that Arsenal have been through in recent years. To which I say that while I’m not superstitious, I am a little bit stitious.
And yet I keep going on these wild tangents about Lucas Torreira because that’s just how confident I am that he is going to be something fantastic.
The best part is that it isn’t just me. Everyone is singing this young man’s praises. Robert Pires is the latest to get in on the action and express a similar sentiment, calling him the best signing of the summer.

I called him the most important signing of the decade just a few days ago, so let me make another bold claim about him – this 2018/19 season comes satisfaction guaranteed for Torreira. Meaning that there is not a chance in the world that we are unsatisfied with him by the years end (in case you needed a definition).
Why make this claim? Simple. There is nothing he can do to hurt his image in this first year. At 22 years old, there is time for him to grow and mature. What we want to see in this first year is ball-winning, intense effort, undying dedication to the cause, so on and so forth.
That is who he is as a player. We are going to see that without a question. Anyone who can flatten Ronaldo can flatten anyone. And if he is, by chance, too aggressive, then I don’t think you’ll find many complaints from fans.
The absolute worst case scenario is that this is all Torreira brings – the effort, the hunger, the passion, the ball-winning. That’s the worst case. The bare minimum. If he ends the season with no goals, no assists and minimal overall offensive output, but gives us those other things, then he had a successful season.
That’s the beauty of this signing. We are getting a player that is who he is, and that is the exact thing we needed.
