Unai Emery has revealed the 25-man Arsenal squad for the upcoming preseason tour to Singapore. The squad is significant in its omissions.

The preseason preparations are just ending their third week. Unai Emery has been working his new Arsenal players hard as he continues to formulate his plans for the season ahead. And as he does, we, as the mere fans, writers and analysts that all modern football fanatics are these days, try to guess his every move.

We now have another development with which to muddle through our puzzles of players, systems, and potential starting XIs. The Gunners have released their 25-man squad for the upcoming preseason tour of Singapore, during which they will play Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The squad is most significant in its omissions, not the names that are included. If you aren’t involved in the preseason activities, it is highly unlikely that you will be involved in the seasonal activities. And so, for five players in particular, that gives us the chance to make an educated guess about their future.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Carl Jenkinson, Joel Campbell, Chuba Akpom and Krystian Bielik were all left out of Emery’s squad to Singapore. It is, therefore, logical to assume that none will be included in the 25-man Premier League or Europa League squads next season and will not be involved in Emery’s plans for the coming campaign.

So, what is likely to happen with these players over the next few weeks?

Well, Akpom’s future has already been sorted, per Jack Pitt-Brooke of the Independent. Pitt-Brooke claims that a £2 million deal with Sint-Truiden, the Belgian team that Akpom scored six goals for while on loan last season, is close to being agreed.

Additionally, Campbell’s contract expires this summer and is free to join another club. It is presumed that that will happen in the coming weeks, though who he will sign with is not yet known. Meanwhile, Jenkinson will also likely leave on a permanent deal. The right-back is now 26 years of age and will most likely never be a part of Emery’s future plans.

The final two, Bielik and Reine-Adelaide, are more interesting cases. Reine-Adelaide has looked good in the preseason so far, scoring a long-range strike against Boreham Wood last week. I was disappointed to not see him included in the Singapore squad. It is probable that he will go out on loan, though it is concerning that he has seemingly slipped below Reiss Nelson who is two years’ his junior. Bielik, also at 20, will most likely go out on loan, though don’t be surprised to see him sold if the right offer arrives.

The Singapore tour will be a further chance to watch Emery continue to implement his new ideas. But, for now, all we have to go on is the names that are on the plane and those that are not. Still, there is information to glean as the picture slowly becomes clearer and clearer.
