Arsenal: Absolutely ditch Petr Cech if it brings Yann Sommer
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal looked to be set, especially between the sticks, but a little shake-up for the greater good never hurt anyone. Bring on Yann Sommer!
Arsenal went all out this summer addressing all of their most important needs and it’s left them with a squad they can be proud of and one that they should be incredibly excited to get onto the pitch.
The problems at keeper were seemingly solved when Bernd Leno was brought in to pair with Petr Cech, but now things may be changing, as Marca indicate that the Gunners are nearing a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach keeper Yann Sommer.
According to these sudden reports, the two are already in negotiations, as Sommer will be bypassing a potential move to Barcelona in order to join forces with Unai Emery at the Emirates.

This would mean one other big thing – that Cech is leaving.
I realize that just a couple days ago I said that selling Petr Cech back to Chelsea serves absolutely no purpose. It blows up the tandem that was supposed to boost each other, just like Szczesny and Cech were supposed to do.

Leno was supposed to learn from Cech and ideally, the two would both improve and we’d gave two keepers capable of being relied upon.
Yann Sommer changes things though. Of all the keepers out there, there aren’t many that I would say we should give up the tandem for, but Yann Sommer is one. Maybe it’s the Swiss connection. I’ve been loving every Swiss player the Gunner shave signed and adding more couldn’t hurt. As we saw in the World Cup, they were a regimented, controlled team, and the three Swiss players we have (assuming we land Sommer) were the three controllers.
Then again, statistically, Sommer remains one of the better keepers out there. At 29, he doesn’t have the same experience as Cech, but he does have a clear and present use with the potential for more. He could compete hand-in-hand with Leno for that starting role to utter perfection.
In fact, staying on the theme of statistics, there is that all-important statistic of saves-per-goal, arguably one of the few stats that can give us a good indication of who is better than who. ANd if you put Sommer up against Leno and Cech, who do you think emerges victorious?

It’s Sommer. Sign him up. Move forward with the squad. This is a flawless idea.
