Arsenal look set to give Calum Chambers a honest-to-goodness chance to be something special, and that is exactly how things are supposed to happen.

Arsenal look to be pulling out of the (one-team?) race for Caglar Soyuncu, and according to the report, it’s because the club has already nabbed Sokratis to be the first-team solution to the present day defensive woes.

But that doesn’t mean that Sokratis is the road block that ruined the move for the young Turk. No, Calum Chambers it that road black, and that is exactly how it should be.

It wasn’t clear exactly how Unai Emery was going to handle his current crop of players that he inherited. As the new manager, he had the freedom to do as he saw fit; to see who he wanted and keep the rest.

He kept the majority, with just a few sales expected in the coming month or so. Calum Chambers was a big decision point as well.

Chambers proved last season that he is ready for the next step. He is ready for his big shot at being a prime time Premier League defender. But in order to prove it, he actually needed the chance to do so, and many questioned if the Gunners would be able to provide him that chance.

After all, a lot of people are vying for that opportunity.

However, it’s clear who has been keeping out the signings of other young defenders. It’s 23-year-old Calum Chambers. The man who committed far less errors last year than the defenders calling themselves the “veterans” of the squad.

Some reports indicate that Chambers may well be given first dibs to pair with Sokratis ahead of the likes of Shkodran Mustafi.

And I dare you to argue against that. Chambers’ career path is exactly how things are supposed to go. He was acquired at a young age. He worked hard to get his specific position down (he was a rightback/defensive mid/centerback) and he struggled.

Oh, how he struggled.

So he got sent out on loan, came back better, improved even more and at the end of that toil, there needs to be the promise of opportunity, otherwise why would players stick around in the first place?

Everything is right with the world for Chambers. He holds his fate in his own hands. Perform well, and he solves a major problem. Struggle, and anything could happen.
