Arsenal: ‘Gushing’ Aaron Ramsey sorely missed as silence rages on
By Josh Sippie
Aaron Ramsey and Unai Emery made it so clear that they wanted to work together at Arsenal, and that enthusiasm was beautiful. Where did it go?
When Unai Emery first signed up with Arsenal, it seemed like he went straight to Aaron Ramsey. Before the two had even met, they were gushing about each other, talking about their enthusiasm to work together.
It was a beautiful thing. It gave all of us confidence that it was only a matter of time before a contract could be signed and the two could finally work together and be best friends for the long haul.
What followed these statements was silence. Nothing happened. Not a thing. Reports of a five-year contract offer surfaced and again, we all felt like it was just a matter of time. And then more silence.
Emery is still openly talking about how big of a part Ramsey will play in his new set-up, but the bubbly Ramsey that started this summer so optimistic and so ready for the next stage of life at the club is gone.

He’s been replaced by humdrum Ramsey giving cookie-cut responses like “nothing is agreed, my agent is talking with the club.”
As if he’s just as annoyed as we are that this deal hasn’t been done yet. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself, because in my heart I want to believe that Ramsey wants to stay. Obviously he wants to stay, otherwise he wouldn’t be bothering with negotiations.
The problem is clearly coming from the club not giving him what he wants. I wasn’t joking when I said (again and again) that Ramsey should get whatever he wants. Because he isn’t going to be unrealistic. He isn’t going to ask to be the highest paid player in the Premier League.
But paying him what Mesut Ozil makes? Absolutely. He deserves it and then some because his impact is bigger than the German’s.
I’m not getting the same warm and fuzzies that this contract is just a matter of time, and each day that it doesn’t progress, I get less warm and less fuzzy.
I still believe it’ll get done, because I refuse to think about the opposite. But damn, if we could just get it done, that’d be great.
