1. Shkodran Mustafi

This guy right here could do absolutely anything. He could be the absolute best defender you’ve ever seen (maybe a slight exaggeration, but just slight) or he may make enough mental mistakes to spot the opposition a couple of goals.

Thankfully, there is a middle ground that hovers near the top and most of the time, that’s where Shkodran Mustafi hangs out. But if Mustafi can reach his peak and hover there instead, then all the defensive woes that we have felt over the years will just disappear, because he is literally that good when he is at his best.

With Sokratis likely back there with him, the defensive questions will already be ranking in pretty high on the concerns list. Neither of these guys will be inspiring all that much confidence going up against a Manchester City firing squad.

But they can certainly stop them if Mustafi steps up and does what he can do, and if Sokratis mirrors that effectiveness. Again, they both can, it’s just a matter of if they will.
