Arsenal were supposed to resolve the Aaron Ramsey situation this summer, but it hasn’t been. But does that then mean that it actually has been?

Arsenal had one massive task this summer. Well, more than one, but one specific one that I want to highlight now – they had to make a decision with Aaron Ramsey. Yes, ideally, we all wanted him to stay and sign on and be our captain, but if not he had to be sold. No more of this dwindling contract crap.

Letting people go for free or scrambling in January to sell a really good player for a cut rate is not what the club should be looking to do. The opposite, in fact.

But that’s where we are headed. The transfer window is closed, thanks to the new policy that shuts the window before the start of the season, and Aaron Ramsey is still here, without a new contract. Which is part stressful and part… exciting?

It’s stressful because for the love of everything, I do not want to see him leave like Wilshere did, or have to be flipped in January like Alexis was, because I can’t imagine it working so smoothly again, like it did for the Chilean.

It’s also exciting though, because as the reports have begun to establish, the negotiations are ongoing. Meaning he isn’t leaving. At least not yet. Meaning he wants to make this deal happen just as much as the club does.

That is a really good sign. It means that there is confidence that the deal will get done, otherwise he just would have been sold. So, barring any catastrophic, apocalyptic cataclysms (too dramatic?), I think it’s safe to say that the Welshman is actually going to be hanging around for the longhaul. Even if it takes a few extra months to make it official.

There is a lot to be said in all of this, even if it is just speculation. It’s not like I’m going way off base here, saying that, since he’s made it through this crucial summer month, that he’s more than likely to stay.

He’s someone you can build around and he’s pretty much irreplaceable, so that’s a big deal.

The reports are lining up too, saying the same thing. He’s made it this far, so why would it change now? All we have to do is woo him with spicy play and we’re in the clear.
