Arsenal: It’s not like Matteo Guendouzi is categorically wrong
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s upstart youngster Matteo Guendouzi thinks that this club can win the Premier League this season. Well, he’s not wrong.
Arsenal’s loss to Manchester City was disheartening, but to say that there weren’t improvements made over last year is to lie to yourself. There was a lot to be optimistic about, even thinking back on it now.
City were coming off one of the best Premier League seasons ever, while the Gunners were in their first match after a two-decade run under the same manager. Yet they still played City better than they played them all of last year. Which is saying something.
And speaking of saying something, Matteo Guendouzi, the newest darling of North London, thinks that the Gunners can win the Premier League title this very season.
Naturally, people are making fun of him and his unbridled optimism, but honestly, can anyone actually say that he is categorically wrong? Absolutely not. We are still so early in this season and with so many moves still to play that it is not ridiculous at all to think that the Gunners could pull off the improbable and nick a title.

I mean, look at this team on paper. I know we’ve been saying that for years, but on paper, they can beat anyone. It’s just a matter of getting their best selves out of them. Which Unai Emery is usually pretty good at doing.
Now, granted the goal for this year should be Champions League spot. Get us back into the upper echelon so he can keep building towards his vision of the club, but in the meantime, why not rally behind someone like Guendouzi, who has so much energy and enthusiasm to make claims like this, because of all the people on this team, he may have showcased the most hunger to actually accomplish what he is saying this team can do.
It’s a long shot. But it’s a long-shot for any and every club as well. Only one team can do what Guendouzi is saying the Gunners can do, so why can’t it be us? If we stop believing already, then what’s the point?
There is always inevitably someone who makes this claim every year. I’m happy that it is Guendouzi, because he backs himself up with his play on the pitch. And, if worse comes to worse, I’m sure that at some point, this young man will win a title with us.
