Arsenal are two matches into the season and there’s already talk of Unai Emery being sacked. I suppose this was inevitable, but it’s also pathetic.

Full-on disclosure before I even start writing this article – I didn’t click the headline where it was suggested that someone suggested that Unai Emery could potentially be sacked, or something along those lines. His Arsenal career is two weeks old, and I refuse to read anything that involves even the slightest hint that someone could have that opinion.

That said, as fans of this beautiful football club, it was only a matter of time before it happened. And I’m sure there are fans out there who have the desire to #SackEmery bubbling up in their gut.

Let me go ahead and do my best to get out in front of this by saying one sentence, and then elaborating on it: This is stupid.

So, so stupid. And I would hope that the overwhelming majority would agree with me. Now, granted, I didn’t read the article that included the word “SACKED” (yes, in all caps) next to something about Unai Emery. I suspect it was a senseless discussion about how long he can go before he gets sacked.

Which is also stupid.

So, so stupid.

If there is one thing we have learned about Arsenal, it’s that they have the patience of a god. Emery will have at least, at least an entire season, worry free, to show signs of improvement. What’s more likely is he will have two full years to really solidify his steps towards building his own brand and this third year will be the determining one.

But if anyone is expecting a quick trigger that sees him fired midway through a season, no matter how bad he is doing, then that person needs to go away. Emery is making strides, he is showing improvement, it was always going to be a tough ask and hopefully, when we go out there and spank West Ham, this stupid, stupid negativity can go bury its head in the mud for awhile. That wouldn’t be too much to ask, would it?

Emery is going to be just fine. He is going to build a new era. He is still migrating out of Wenger’s shadow, with tons of Wenger-esque players, and as long as that is the case, he is going to have stutter steps and hiccups.

Patience. It will get better. But it won’t if you sack him.
