Front three

Such is the flexibility and versatility of many of Arsenal’s midfielders and attackers, it is difficult to predict a starting central midfield trio without commenting on the front three, and vice-versa. And in this case, it is very much the same story — it is quite easy to see who I predict will start on Saturday because I have Ozil as a central midfielder, not a winger.

With Ozil replacing Ramsey in midfield again, the front three is simply a consequence of that prediction: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexandre Lacazette. That would, of course, see Aubamayenag shift out to the left wing with Lacazette fielded through the midfield.

Lacazette is yet to start a game this season But I feel that a slightly easier opponent provides Emery with the opportunity to overload his attacking options somewhat, knowing that his team can control the game with extended periods of possession and pressure. Alex Iwobi may feel slighted after his promising performance against Chelsea but there will be more opportunities for him down the line.

It is an attacking team, more so than what Emery has utilised so far this season. But this is the first time that Arsenal are playing against a ‘lesser team’. That changes the pattern of the match and alters the type of team that is required. I feel that Emery will be sensitive to those changes.
