Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang are each other’s key
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have two wonderful strikers that compliment each other so well, almost like a duel-key. But then why aren’t they allowed to unlock each other?
Arsenal are the only team I know that refuse to play to their strengths. They have two fantastic strikers, both of whom can be world class. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is statistically one of the best in all of Europa and Alexandre Lacazette’s ability to finish is second to very, very few.
But what is truly special about these two is the clear chemistry that they share. It’s what I’ve semi-jokingly referred to as a bromance, but what is actually a very special thing to have with a contemporary.
Last year, when Lacazette was at rock bottom, he had been injured and replaced, it was Aubameyang who picked him up and gave him a chance to score and get himself back on the right track. It worked to perfect. Lacazette finished strong with Aubameyang out to his left.
Aubameyang has constantly been there to lift Lacazette up. He even offered to move back out wide solely to accommodate the Frenchman coming back into the starting XI to play alongside and reignite the bromance.

But now it’s time for Lacazette to reciprocate. Aubameyang is struggling. Yes, it’s only two games and he will certainly be just fine, but why rely on fate when you can rely on a talented footballer sitting on the bench to turn the tides of fate in your favor?
You want to see the best of Aubameyang? Then stick Lacazette out there and let them compliment each other. The chemistry will wake Aubameyang up, being back in the starting XI will wake Lacazette up and guess who benefits the most?
Arsenal.
I don’t know what to expect going into West Ham as far as if these two will be starting together and I hate that. I wish we could trust that we’ll put our best foot forward in the attack and let these two compliment each other like they’ve been doing for months.
Hopefully it won’t take long for Unai Emery to figure out. These are two of our best players, you could argue that they are the two best. So it only makes sense that if they jive that well together, then you just have to start both of them, two striker set or not.
On a separate, but completely related, note, why is it so hard for our managers to commit to a two-striker set?
