Arsenal: ‘Fab Four’ needs to be called what it really is
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s attack is the name of the game, because they don’t have much defense. That being the case, it’s time to call it what it is – the ‘Fab Five.’
All Arsenal fans know the ‘Fab Four’ and know it as the hopes of the present successes of the club. It started with Mesut Ozil. It continued with Alexandre Lacazette, but it wasn’t a thing until we landed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Suddenly, out of the blue, the Gunners had four world class attackers that were sure to fire the team to success. But given that it was a recent development, the club needed some time to sort out how best to use them.
Even last year, I didn’t like the name ‘Fab Four.’ I much rather preferred the ‘Fab Five,’ which is what it has been since the Fab Four has been in existence. So just call it what it is, it’s a Fab Five, not a Fab Four.
And against Cardiff City, we got another indication of that. As we’ve seen lately, the attack hasn’t been working as well, or at least it’s far less consistent, with Mesut Ozil being the hinge. There is too much luxury and waiting amidst the Fab Four.

You need a gritty engine at the center to make it all tick. But I get it, when you call it the Fab anything, you expect creativity and flair in order to be part of the club.
Well, we have that, and his name it Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey is every bit at the same level as those other four in the exclusive club and, thus far into the season, he’s been the best of the midfield bunch, and arguably the best of the whole bunch.
I feel like Ramsey is only left out of the collection because he’s been here so long and some people still carry the grudges that they developed when he was struggling to find himself. And because he isn’t as sparkly because of the longevity. But be honest with yourself, if you stack the Fab Five together, Ramsey wouldn’t be the fifth wheel. He’d be as he was against Cardiff City, the centerpiece.
Not like it matters, but I think we need to stop with this Fab Four nonsense and call it what it really is, the Fab Five. Maybe we can start talking about the Super Six down the road but that’s a talk for another day.
