Defence

6.5. There was a moment in the first half when Vorskla were bursting down the left flank on the break. Lichtsteiner was a step behind two Vorskla attackers who could be supplied with the right pass. He sprinted 30 or 40 yards to make sure that he was the first person into the penalty area. The pass never came, but Lichtsteiner’s defensive instincts and attitude should not be overlooked. His play for the fourth goal was nice, though eradicated moments later with his miscontrol for the Vorskla goal.. RB. Arsenal. STEPHAN LICHTSTEINER

CB. Arsenal. ROB HOLDING. 6.5. Tidy, very tidy. This is the ideal kind of game for Holding: a whole lot of possession where his passing comes to the fore against an opponent that lacks pace to exploit the space on the break. Defensively, he was not tested and it would be remiss to provide any significant analysis, but he was neat in possession, which is all you can really ask for. Obviously seen above Mavropanos in the pecking order now, also.

7.0. Had almost nothing to do but should be credited with several decent interventions against fast-breaking attackers and for a lovely pass into Lichtsteiner for the fourth goal. Showed surprising long speed on a few occasions also. He may not have the quickness over short spaces, but once he gets moving, he is quick.. CB. Arsenal. SOKRATIS

LB. Arsenal. NACHO MONREAL. 6.5. Difficult to effectively assess any of the defender’s performances given the lack of threat from Vorskla. Monreal was perfectly solid. Didn’t really have much to do, provided a couple of nice attacking runs off the ball in the final third, and wasn’t really exposed on the counter-attack.
