Arsenal vs Brentford: Predicted starting XI for League Cup opener
By Josh Sippie
No. 10 and striker
I think I’ve been pretty reserved and sensible throughout the other nine players on the pitch. There are injuries and absences, so I’ve done my best to not get carried away regarding who we should be seeing out there against Brentford.
That changes with the No. 10 and striker. But partially because of injuries.
Due to Mkhitaryan’s absence, and given the “lesser” state of the match, I can see Emery digging into the youth at these two positions, giving Emile Smith Rowe the start at the No. 10 role and Eddie Nketiah the start up front.
Regarding Smith Rowe, the options are again limited. Ramsey was already dealing with fatigue and Ozil is, well, let’s say ‘unsatisfying.’ Meanwhile, Smith Rowe is chomping at the bit to get a serious opportunity and this could be a fantastic chance to deliver that.
Meanwhile, I don’t see the point in starting Aubameyang again. He put in a good shift against Everton, helped on by a good showing against Vorskla, but I’d rather see Nketiah out there and I hope that Emery agrees with me.
