Arsenal fans are as fickle as they come, but given the early progress report, is it safe to say that we already trust Unai Emery at the helm?

Arsene Wenger did so much for Arsenal, but I think it’s safe to say he did lose some of the trust of the fans later on. We all knew he loved the club and had its best interests at heart, but his inability to modernize the club caused a certain unsuredness in the fanbase.

Still, 22 years with the most successful club manager in all time is going to jade fans against the next manager, especially when he starts with two losses. Unai Emery didn’t begin with a bang, but he has gradually worked up to a dull roar.

The club has now won six in a row and, if they can put away Watford at the Emirates, they’ll jump into a Champions League place, and that’s what the goal is, to hold down that position.

But none of that is why I’m asking this question. I’m asking this question because of the early signs that Emery has shown to fill the gaps that Wenger left.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It has to be said that a lot of what Wenger built is absolutely being respected by Emery. he didn’t rip out the roots, or destroy the entire system to start over. He is testing the waters to see how things work. He’s giving Wenger’s players the chance to prove themselves before doing whatever he wants to do after that.

He’s shown a willingness to do things that Wenger struggled with and, once he gets more of his players, you can bet he will build on that.

Namely, he is making it clear that he knows how to play in the modern game. He knows what the modern player needs. He knows how to make changes. He clearly plans and executes what he wants, and adheres to his principles, with a willingness to reassess.

That said, I’ll finally ask it – do we trust Emery’s vision?

I can honestly say that I wholeheartedly do. If this is the trajectory of what we have to look forward to, then bring it on, I’m all about this life. Emery knows the modern game, but still holds a lot of the values that made Wenger special.
