Arsenal: One more reason not to start Ramsey and Ozil together

Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are competing for the same position at Arsenal and they’re both losing. Here’s one more reason they can’t coexist.

For those that don’t know, I’m a massive Aaron Ramsey fan. I think he is lucrative to what Arsenal‘s hopes and dreams are and a large part of that is because I see so much of the club in him. There is so, so much potential, skill, and pizzazz, but so little ability to put it all together.

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil is a superstar. He’s one of the greatest creators the game has ever seen, he broke the transfer drought at the Emirates and set numerous records when he first arrived.

By rights, both of these guys should be at the top of their game, propelling this club to greatness, and they probably should have been doing it years ago. But only now is this situation coming to a head, where they are essentially being pitted against each other, and only now is it clear that together, they just aren’t that good.

These are already two players that divide so much opinion. Even now, as the No. 10 war wages on, the debate rages over who is better-suited to the role, and it’s quite the divided crowd.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

And while that debate rages on and we are left with both of them starting together, we have been handed another clear and obvious reason why they just aren’t suited to be on the pitch together, actively dueling over the same position.

It’s because neither currently is, or has ever been, reliable. Meaning that at any given moment, one or the other might disappear. I always thought Ramsey was less susceptible to disappearing, but after Watford, when he wasn’t all that great, I was reminded that yes, he still can.

With two players of this high caliber, it’s hard to sit them together. But with two players that can disappear, you can’t start them together. While it hasn’t happened yet this year, the potential is there for both of them to disappear, and then what?

Then you have an invisibility wall between our strikers and our deep midfielders where two superstars are supposed to be.

That’s not good.

It’s a situation that is tumbling towards a resolution in the form of an explosion. Ramsey was not happy against Watford. Ozil has struggled all season, despite his two goals. It’s a problem, but at the very least, hopefully any damage can be kept to a minimum.
