Arsenal new boy Lucas Torreira probably didn’t do what he did intentionally, but the man is just a dream for Gooners, whether he means it or not.

Arsenal‘s midfield is actually working. They have all the pieces they need. I honestly don’t think we’ve been able to say that since the Invincible days. And I’m not being dramatic there. This midfield has been a point of concern for well over ten years, as Wenger always struggled with the idea of having a bruiser in there.

In came Unai Emery and, shortly after, came a bruiser in Lucas Torreira, although to sell him as just a bruiser is to do him a discredit, because he is so much more.

Still, his ability to bruise is certainly what endears him to Gooners so much, as it’s what they’ve been calling out for for so many years. We’ve seen it clearly – this man is fearless, he knows how to win the ball, and he’s all ours.

And then he goes off, during international break, and absolutely demolishes a Son Heung-min, a Totteham player, in an international “friendly.”

More from Pain in the Arsenal

No doubting that it was a bit of a nasty tackle, which I probably wouldn’t be highlighting so much if not for the fact that the South Korean international was okay afterwards, but it also begs to be mentioned that I really doubt that Torreira went into this tackle thinking, “it’s a Spurs man, let’s have some fun.”

Maybe he did. I’m no psychic. And that’s a different conversation, if so. But assuming that he didn’t know precisely what he was doing, that doesn’t take away from the fact that he did yet another thing that will probably get a smile and a chuckle out of Arsenal fans.

It’s like Torreira can’t help but be the dream signing that he is. Even when he’s off on international duty, he’s still doing things that we’re going to love him for.

Torreira hasn’t faced Tottenham yet. He won’t until December, at which point you have to imagine he will be settled in even more and ready to do to Son what he… has already done to Son. Preferably avoiding a yellow card in the process.

Any time something like this happens during international break, it just builds anticipation for what he’s going to do next. Bring on next weekend, I’m ready to see Torreira do more of that.
