Arsenal and Aaron Ramsey may be due to part ways, but no matter what happens in the end, we are owed an explanation for how this all happened in the first place.

This is probably the last article I’ll be writing about Aaron Ramsey‘s contract saga with Arsenal for awhile. It’s getting to be a bit tedious, but there is one last point still to make, and then I’ll leave it at that.

Arsenal cast away Jack Wilshere has voiced his opinion about Aaron Ramsey’s ongoing contract saga with the club, and he was effusive in his praise of his former teammate, saying that the Welshman should be made captain, not forced out.

Obviously he is right. No one deserves that armband quite like Ramsey. No one has been through as much as he has and still feels he owes himself to the club. No one. He is everything you could want in a captain.

Which is what makes the whole saga that much worse. The fact that it’s even come this far makes it a bit of a black eye on the club’s management of the situation.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I can’t help going back to how “sure” a thing Ramsey signing a new deal was. Both he and Unai Emery were literally gushing over how excited they were to be working together and the lowdown was that a new deal would be signed before the summer was even out.

When that didn’t happen, it was supposed to be done in January. The offer was on the table for a rumored four- or five-year deal and all that was needed was Ramsey to sign the thing.

With the history that Ramsey and the club share, a deal shouldn’t just be ripped off the table like it was with Ramsey. Literally, overnight, it went from a matter of time to it’s all over.

Which just leads into the point that I’m trying to make. Whatever happens in the end, specifically if Ramsey leaves, we have to know what happened. We have to know how something so crucial to the club could go so wrong so quickly. And if it was money, well then shame on everyone, because that’s really pathetic.

In the meantime, all we can do is appreciate him while we have him. I think even the haters will find that he’s going to be rather difficult to replace. Some players just have a knack for heroics and he’s one of them.
