Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s ends justify the means, right?

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had to pull out some serious stops to ensure his transfer to North London. But that’s all good, right?

To this day, I still guffaw over how Arsenal were ever able to secure Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, especially with the likes of Arsene Wenger and Stan Kroenke in charge.

I mean, this was one of the best strikers in the world, arguably the best. And here come the Gunners, forking out top dollar (well, not really) to land the striker. They didn’t spend all that much, considering what we were getting in return.

What made it even odder was the fact that so few other teams, if any, were involved in the pursuit of the Gabonese striker.

More than that, he was a very un-Wenger player, and he was purchased mere months after Alexandre Lacazette, who it took the Gunners three years to buy. Yet they made Aubameyang look so easy.

It was made a hell of a lot easier by Aubameyang’s antics. His unsavory antics, I should say.

And they are coming to light again. Highlighted (or low-lighted) among the “atrocities” that Aubameyang committed to get away from Dortmund, is the report that he would refuse to run in training.

Then-Dortmund manager Peter Stoger said that Aubameyang essentially forced his way out by making himself as useless as possible in Dortmund training.

All in all, that’s a rather nasty thing to think about. It’s a situation that makes me feel a bit shifty and, had things not worked out so well for Dortmund, I’d be feeling a bit sad for them. Plus, I’m sure their fans are a bit jaded to their once-darling Aubameyang as well. We can totally relate here at the Emirates.

All that being said, do the ends justify the means? Absolutely they do. Because if I said that they didn’t, then I would be saying that Aubameyang should be punished in some way because of how he facilitated the move. That would be silly and highly counterintuitive. Whatever he did to make sure the move happened, it happened, it’s over now, and both clubs are better off because of it.

Aubameyang is tied for the Premier League lead in goals scored, as many predicted, and will remain a prime candidate to land the Golden Boot for this season.
