Arsenal: That part of Lucas Torreira that is suddenly so Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal have a special player in Lucas Torreira, and against Tottenham, he showed that there may actually be a little bit of Aaron Ramsey in him too.

Lucas Torreira is a dream come true. Even if Arsenal hadn’t gone a decade and then some without a midfielder of his variety, he would still be an absolute dream for this club, simply because of who he is as a player.

Against Tottenham, we got another taste of it. Despite starting a bit wonky, Torreira quickly began to enforce his will, claiming possession and driving forward with the passion and gusto that… well… that he has shown time and time again.

But there were other tidbits about his play against Tottenham that I found to be so similar to Aaron Ramsey, and these are things that have only started to emerge recently.

First of all, there is the live-wire attacking play, where he is willing to try absolutely anything, whether that means thumping it from distance or rocking a “cross” into the box for his teammates to deal with.

It doesn’t always come off, but this guy tries things, and there is always a value to be placed on a guy willing to take a chance.

That isn’t the main thing that strikes me as quite Ramsey-esque, however. The main thing is Torreira’s undying drive. One of the main things that I’ve come to appreciate about Ramsey is how useful he can be late in games, when he is still pushing for goals, still hungry, and seemingly unbothered by 90 minutes of play (when he was still getting 90 minutes of play).

That is what the fourth goal stemmed from – Torreira’s drive and passion and his ability to take it next level. He made a run from deep all the way into the box, trusting in Aubameyang’s intuition to spot the run, and then he put it away, cool as you like.

It was a very Ramsey goal, a very intelligent play overall that ended up looking quite easy simply because, when it comes to the technical aspects of it, it was easy.

He’s only 22-years-old. Meaning that all these niblets of superstardom that we are seeing, these emergences of Ramsey-like traits, will only grow as he matures into the game.

Which just means that, in case you haven’t heard, he is an incredibly special player, and someone that can drive this team for years to come.
