Several Arsenal players were seen inhaling “Hippy Crack” back in August and there’s some kind of faux outrage. But no one who matters actually cares.

Don’t we all love the media? If you are an Arsenal player, or any Premier League player for that matter, and you get caught with so much as two socks that don’t match, they will probably call you out for being mentally unstable. Just ask Raheem Sterling, who had the audacity to eat breakfast. Dude was hounded by the press.

Now, it’s all about that “Hippy Crack,” also known as laughing gas. In case you missed the memo (in which case, you really didn’t miss anything), several Arsenal players: Mustafi, Ozil, Guendouzi, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Kolasinac, Mkhitaryan (maybe more, who knows) were photographed inhaling laughing gas out of balloons.

Later, the videos came out, and the focus shifted to Guendouzi, who looked to have passed out at one point.

This happened in August.

August.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Check your calendars. It’s December. In August we weren’t playing anybody of importance. And even if we were, it’s laughing gas. Yippee. If anything, I am proud of out veteran’s for taking out a newbie like Guendouzi and showing him a fun, relatively safe time.

But of course, the media had to press the issue, and the club made an official statement that went something like this: “The players will be spoken to about this and reminded of their responsibilities as representatives of the club.”

Ouch! Scathing, right?

No, it’s not. Because guess what? It doesn’t have to be. The club probably just said, “hey guys, you looked like you were having fun, it was before the season started. Let’s be safe and represent the club well, alright?”

“Alright.”

But it won’t go away! Headlines are now misleading readers into thinking that these players will be punished, that Guendouzi was in serious danger, and some who are spreading the video online made it sound like this happened recently.

Again, it’s all crap. It’s contrived nothingness that they are putting out there to get clicks. So do yourself the favor and remind yourself that this is no big deal. Our teammates like each other. They like to hang out. That’s a pretty cool thing.

Otherwise, this is another non-story. Which is sad, because there are plenty of other things to talk about other than a social outing before the season even began. Stay informed folks… stay informed.
