Arsenal: Slamming Matteo Guendouzi for “Hippy Crack” just plain stupid

The Hippy Crack saga wears on, and now, the speculation is that Arsenal will be most harsh on Matteo Guendouzi. Uh… why would that be?

Arsenal‘s ongoing “Hippy Crack”-gate continues to pick up steam, as questions are being asked and speculation is running wild about who will get in trouble the most. This faux outrage has been solely based on rampant speculation, as the actual statements from club and coach have been nothing but ordinary.

Out of it all, the speculation is that Matteo Guendouzi is going to be punished the harshest, as this “party” was just a few days before the opener – a 2-0 loss against Manchester City. It was a largely disappointing match, and one that fans would have probably enjoyed having Hippy Crack available just to get through it.

But this notion that Guendouzi could or should get in the most trouble is utterly asinine. Consider the context. Guendouzi is new to the team, the superstars on the team want to show him a good time, so he goes. There’s no foul in that, mostly because the party itself isn’t a big deal. These guys are human, they’re entitled to a good time.

Then consider what happened afterwards. Had Guendouzi come out against City looking like a drunk goat, sure, criticize him, say he shouldn’t have done it. But Guendouzi was the best player on the team. The same was true against Chelsea.

Guendouzi was so good that he shot out to the Premier League lead in ball-winning plays. He was seen as the true savior in the midfield, with Torreira being the added bonus. That’s how good he was.

But please, tell me more about how irresponsible he was.

I get that these players are role models, and that kids look up to them. But if you’re going to question that based on footage pulled (questionably) from a security camera, then you need to reevaluate things. These guys are human too, and the way these players have come together under the new manager is truly inspiring.

They aren’t just teammates, they are mates. Actual mates. They are friends. And that contributes to how well they are playing together.

What matters most is what happens on the pitch. They are paid to play. As long as they play effectively, then, there is no reason to complain. Guendouzi played fantastically. That should be the end of the story.

But it won’t be. Just remember, ladies and gentlemen, that sometimes tabloids can be rather daft. However, we here at Pain in the Arsenal will always be here to remind you what really matters. 21 unbeaten anyone?!
