Wesley Moraes: Who is the Brazilian striker Arsenal are interested in? What will he do for the club, is he ready, and all the questions you want to know.

Arsenal has recently been linked with a certain striker called Wesley Moraes. He’s also said to be a target for Valencia and Fiorentina. Now let’s get to know him a bit better as we ascertain if he is right for this team, or if he is just another passing rumor.

Wesley Moraes Ferreira da Silva, known as just Wesley Moraes, is a Brazilian footballer born on November 29, 1996 in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. He is currently playing for Club Brugge in the Belgian Jupiler League.

He started out his youth career at Brazilian club Itabuna in 2009 at the tender age of 13 and played there till age 19. He then joined Slovak club AS Trenčin in 2015 where he scored six goals in 18 games and left for Club Brugge the next year for the meagre price of £900k.

Since 2016, he has been a consistent presence for Club Brugge and has put 26 goals past the net in 84 games.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This season he has scored ten goals in 22 games and while his stats aren’t entirely flattering (for a striker, that’s certainly not mind blowing) he’s still a lot better than what the Gunners could do elsewhere, and the potential is certainly there for him to do something special. Plus, he’ll cost just £15 million, according to the reports. That’s a paltry price in recent times, especially due to inflation.

However, I’m not buying it. I’d rather have Eddie Nketiah replace Danny Welbeck than have an external striker joining when he is even less proven than Nketiah. Nketiah has what it takes to be an adequate back-up striker as is, and that’s not even including the future. Right now our greatest concerns and priorities should be getting a leftback and a winger, not more strikers.

Promising as he is, and the fact we do not have any Brazilians in our setup (we need the Brazilian magic!) I still wouldn’t really be concerned by this rumour.

It has come out of nowhere and will go back into hiding with time because I really doubt Arsenal are all that interested in signing this player.

But then we signed Matteo Guendouzi out of nowhere and he turned out to be a steal. Hopefully, Sven Mislintat will do the right thing again because in Mislintat We Trust.
