Arsenal: Why bother hiding from the Aaron Ramsey monster?

Arsenal still look to be saying goodbye to Aaron Ramsey due to the monstrous contractual flub, but what’s the point in hiding from him?

Arsenal have spent many years waiting to get the best out of Aaron Ramsey, and it wasn’t until recently that we really started to see him flourishing. Right as the usual “prime years” settled in, so too did the prolific nature of the Welshman.

This year, he has some of the best statistical numbers on the club, and has proven himself to be the most effective creator, even moreso than Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Iwobi (all three combined, actually).

Yet, with his contract wearing down, Unai Emery looks determined to find someone who can produce like Aaron Ramsey, but the monster that is Ramsey’s unjust, impending exit can’t simply be avoided. The simple fact of the matter, the fact that makes the whole situation a monster, is that Ramsey is one of our best players. Is still one of our best players.

So why hide from it? If Emery wants to get into the Champions League, or if he wants to potentially win the FA Cup or finish higher than fourth, he needs to rely on his best players, no matter their contract situation.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I understand why he keeps sending Mesut Ozil out there. Because it would be far easier if the superstar with the contract could produce like the superstar without the contract. That would solve a huge problem and slay the monster right there.

But that doesn’t look like it is going to be the case. Ozil isn’t exactly in the ‘learn new tricks’ phase of his career, so it might come down to a continual banging of the head against the wall in the hopes that eventually that wall will crumble to reveal a gold mine.

Not likely.

As such, seeing as how the situation is basically inevitable, why not just let Ramsey, the far superior player, do far superior things in the club, thus helping them earn more points, sparing Emery from any unnecessary experiments and letting the club have maximum access to all their best players?

We can’t just give up on Ozil, but to continually give him the opportunity and only hand one to Ramsey in moments of desperation is a bit counterproductive. Sure, you hate to rely on someone who is leaving, but you also want to win as often as you can. Don’t you?
