Wide Midfield

RM. Arsenal. AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES. 7.1. Man of the Match. Well, let it not be said that nothing good (or at least nothing not bad) came out of this match. Because Ainsley Maitland-Niles, playing as a right-sided central midfielder, was quite good. The goal obviously bolsters his stock a bit, but even outside of that, he was as solid as you could ask him to be. He was making those vital runs into the box, he was one of the few players who didn’t look to be drowning in the pressures of the match.

7.0. The other clearly positive performer in this one. His attacking moves were a threat throughout the match, no matter how out of hand it got. Credit to him, because I know a lot of people, myself included, were asking before the match how he keeps getting starts. Well, if he can play like this against Liverpool while his team is being mown down like a lawn, then he deserves some consideration. Well done to him. Shame it couldn’t have meant more.. LM. Arsenal.
