The transfer window is here, but will Arsenal actually spend or sit by and wait it out? It’s time to make a statement, and that falls on Stan Kroenke.

Arsenal started the new year on a high as they cruised to a 4-1 win over Fulham. The win was not a flawless performance but nothing hurts as long as three points are comfortably put in the bag. The Gunners were on point with their attacking display but the defensive staging was far from convincing.

The defensive woes of the Gunners do not need any detailed elaboration, as it has been here for quite a while now and solutions have been hard to find due to the chronic under-investment into the team’s backline.

Liverpool proved to be quite a painful lesson for this club, and the defensive showing against Fulham has removed any iota of doubt that something needs to be done swiftly.

It is looking increasingly unlikely that the Gunners will be able to secure a Top 4 position with this kind of defense, as our attack cannot consistently outscore every opponent. The defense needs to deliver.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The January transfer window is open and the time is now to do something concrete, to make a statement, to stop making excuses about the unavailability of funds. It’s time for Stan Kroenke and Co. to show some ambition for the club, to splash out money on marquee players rather than finding young gems over and over again and training them for the future.

It’s the present we must focus on, the future will automatically be secured if we learn from our mistakes in the past and perform well in the present which we don’t seem to be doing regularly. Money needs to be spent and there is no substitute for it.

I regret to say that I have no confidence in Stan Kroenke after a mere £70m he provided to Unai Emery to rebuild the rotten squad. It’s difficult to comprehend that a club of Arsenal’s quality, size and ambition have a mere £70m to spend in a summer transfer window in this kind of super-inflationary market.

You cannot win battles defensively with mediocre players, because nothing replaces what world class quality brings to the team. And world class quality asks for a price which Arsenal have sadly missed out on on every single occasion. Big time.

Will things change at the Emirates? Will the hotly-contested Stan Kroenke invest money and put his faith in the manager to turn the fortunes around or will it be the same old excuses? It’s high time for Stan Kroenke to start investing big into the club or, otherwise, it will be more shouts of ‘Kroenke Out’ around the Emirates.
