Amongst the many signings Arsenal need to make, that of a secondary striker often goes under the radar. Here are 3 players who would be ideal to fulfill the role.

It is clear to every Arsenal fan, no matter how optimistic or pessimistic, that the club are in dire need of strengthening in an abundance of positions. The primary concerns are seemingly that of a central defender and the signing of a pacey wide player.

Although I would agree these are the positions that the reds of London should be concerning themselves most with, there is an undeniable void in the club at the moment: The lack of a different attacking option on the bench.

For the first time in years, the Gunners finally have not only one world class striker at their disposal, but two.

However, the current predicament Unai Emery sees himself in is that he would much prefer to play the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyeng simultaneously, but it is not intelligent given the lack of  depth within the position.

Emery has made it evident he does not fully trust Eddie Nketiah to be his “go-to” secondary striker, therefore the club must look for a “Plan B” as soon as possible. Here are three players who would effectively hold down the position.

3. Salomon Rondon

Perhaps the most random name that most would have never even imagined, is that of West Bromwich Albion’s, Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan international is currently on loan at Newcastle United and has made statements recently that he would prefer to make his loan move a permanent one, as he is “really happy” at the club.

However, despite Rondon declaring his contentment under Rafa Benitez, a cheeky bid from the Gunners would surely give the Venezuelan a “re-think” of where his future could really lie. Rondon has an abundance Premier League experience and would be a cheap and solid option to have on the bench going into the future.

2. Aleksandar Mitrovic

24-year-old Serbian international Aleksandar Mitrovic has attracted the attention of many elite clubs in Europe since his first season with Fulham in the Premier League began. With an impressive eight goals and two assist so far this season, Mitrovic has shown that even if the team around him is not preforming, he can still pull a rabbit out of the hat and produce truly golden moments though goals.

In Mitrovic’s short career so far, he has shown that scoring goals comes naturally to him. The Serbian striker would be a wonderful addition to Arsenal and would add even more goals to our already high-scoring attack.

1. “Le roi” or “The King” of the Plan B Position: Olivier Giroud

The former Arsenal man, Olivier Giroud is the first man that comes to many people’s mind when the term “Plan B striker” is used. The 32-year-old Frenchman was used as the final piece to a “transfer triangle” that also involved Michy Bastyuahi as well as our very own Pierre Emerick Aubameyeng.

Giroud served a six-year stint with the Gunners and left for Chelsea in hopes of more game time leading up to the 2018 World Cup. He got exactly what he wanted and now he is in a place where he is going into the final stages of his contract with the blues.

Does Giroud fancy a move back to familiar surroundings or has his time at Arsenal come and gone?

There is undoubtedly higher priorities than that of a “Plan B” striker, but the need for one has become ever more apparent now that Lacazette and Aubameyeng being played together is a risk and an injury to one of them can completely derail Arsenal’s season. Emery will either have to start to trust Eddie Nketiah or move in the transfer window if the blatant void is to be fulfilled.
